Temple Baptist Church started as a mission from the Prospect Baptist Church on June 25, 1972. We held our services in the home of Brother Thurman Holt with around 50 people present.
On July 16, 1972 we rented a garage for our services. We were organized into a church on August 20, 1972. We purchased 1 1/2 acres of land that same August. We borrowed a mobile unit from our state association and set it on the land. We held our first service in the trailer on September 17, 1972.
On June 15, 1973 we moved into our new building, and over the next 4 years we experienced tremendous growth.
In September of 1977 we moved into a newly constructed auditorium. The two buildings set side-by-side and were connected by an enclosed walkway.
In 1983 we had grown so much that we needed to add again. We constructed a 2 story education, office, and fellowship complex (now Holt Hall) as well as extending our auditorium to accommodate a larger crowd.
As the Lord continued to bless, in 1993 we built our Family Life Center. This facility had several more classrooms as well as a large multipurpose play area.
In 1998, it once again became necessary to build on. We used a large superstructure to connect the 2 existing buildings. We added a choir room and a prayer room. We also once again extended the auditorium.
Once again, in 2005, it became necessary for us to build more facilities to accommodate our people and our ministries. In 2006 we completed the construction of the Apex Building. This building includes an additional 300 seat Worship Center as well as a coffee house, space for student, college, and children's ministries, and several Small Group rooms.
As for the future, well, we believe that Temple's future is as limitless as the God we serve. Our plan is to continue to grow and expand as we work to fulfill our purpose until Jesus Christ returns.
